The idea of knitting a sweater can feel completely daunting to a lot of knitters. Knitting a sweater from the top-down is a great place to start. Once you learn this method of sweater knitting, you’ll come back to it time and time again.
Top-down sweaters are fun to knit because you can try them on as you knit and it’s easy to adjust sleeve and hem lengths. The best part is that there is minimal finishing and by finishing, I mean sewing seams.
The Novice Sweater, by Petiteknit, is knit seamlessly from the top down. You’ll will begin by knitting the neckband, then the yoke, then the body, and finally the sleeves. The sweater is knit in stockinette stitch, while the neckband, bottom edge (waist band), and cuffs are knit in rib.
