Going the extra mile

It all started with a hat. I had designed the Shine Bright Hat in collaboration with Artyarns using Iris’ new Cashmere Eco and pairing it with her Beaded Silk & Sequins Light.

One of my friends bought the pattern and wanted the color used in the pattern, color #101. I can’t blame her, I was smitten with the color as well. Artyarns usually has a wide selection of colors available on a regular basis, however given the current state of affairs ~ that was not the case. I directed her to the available retailers.

When she was unsuccessful, I figured I would give it a try. I was raised to exhaust all resources when in search of the holy grail, so I reached out on Facebook to retailers who carry Artyarns.

First I heard from Felicia of Pick Up Every Stitch (a terrific store in Mount Kisco, NY). She had the Cashmere Eco, but not the coordinating Beaded Silk & Sequins. She was kind enough to send me a photo of what she had in stock.

My customer really wanted both yarns in Color #101. I thought the search was over. I knew Iris hadn’t had a chance to dye much of this color before we were all locked down.

Then I heard from a shop in Ireland! Yes, Ireland. Jannette from Jannettes Rare Yarns reached out to me. She had the Beaded Silk & Sequins Light in Color #101! Was it the luck of the Irish? A Christmas Miracle?

As an aside, Jannette wrote that “she wished she was in Florida right now”. I wrote back, “funny, I wish I was in Ireland”.

I connected my friend with both yarn stores and my mission was complete, going that extra mile paid off. I felt really good about the whole experience ~ everyone was happy.
