The past couple of weeks I’ve been in “hand knit holiday gift lock down”. Since I am a selfish knitter by nature, I needed a (relatively) quick knit that was not a holiday gift as a change of pace.
I have been staring at this one skein of Malabrigo Worsted on the shelf at Westport Yarns for months. This poor orphan skein has been calling my name.
A combination of things happened that landed it in my knitting bag. I have admired the Burberry Inspired Cowl since it made it’s debut. I remember seeing the ad for the real Burberry Cowl in a magazine and had thought about copying it. That’s as far as it went. Imagine my delight when I saw that someone else actually did. It’s been in my queue ever since.
I have been searching for the right yarn since then. Nothing fit the bill. Then a customer came into Westport Yarns and she was knitting it with Malabrigo Worsted. Hmmm, the wheels began to turn.
I checked out the “yarn ideas” tab for the Burberry Inspired Cowl (look right above the pattern title) .
Malabrigo Worsted was the number one yarn people used. I think you can fill in the blanks from here.
You start out with a provisional cast on. I tried a different method this time because when I do the crochet provisional cast on it doesn’t always “unzip” easily. I used the Open, a.k.a. provisional, cast on from an article on knitty.com. It was a little more fiddly to set up, however, it came out easily when I was done. Then you graft it closed. you could do a three needle bind off if you prefered.
While “watching” football with my husband, I knit 75% of it. This yarn is a pleasure to knit with, it feels almost as soft as Cashmere.
All in all, a complete pleasure. I would definitely do this one again. Malabrigo has 210 yards in it and I had less than a yard left. Good till the last drop, I mean yard.
